    Join the Bookclub and enjoy a lively discussion and good company! Welcoming new members, enjoy a most friendly atmosphere and great fun. 

    Details: We read and discuss interesting books on the third or fourth Thursday of each month, depending on which is more convenient for the group.  The books are chosen as a group, and we try to choose books that have some “meat” to make for interesting and lively discussions.  The fall books that we have chosen are as follows:

    San Fernando Church Seniors' Luncheon

    Help us prepare and serve a nice lunch for the seniors at the San Fernando Church. 

    Details: We meet at Ora's house around 10:30 am to prepare the food, pack individual portions of bread, fruits, vegetables, etc., then we transport the meal to the lunch venue where we serve the seniors. After everyone has eaten, we sing "Happy Birthday" in Spanish (Feliz Cumpleaños) to all Seniors born in the month and celebrate them with cake.

    When: Every 3rd Monday of each month from 10:30 am - 3 pm (+/-)   (check the calendar for specific dates)

    Where:  Ora's house then the lunch venue. For directions to Ora's home and/or the lunch venue, contact Ora directly at 55-7022-4316

    RSVP Required: To participate in the event please email Lynda Opocensky at opocensky.lg@gmail.com. This will ensure that we have enough volunteers.

    Cost: Free. Open to members and non-members.

    Notes: Please note that the Lunch is made at Ora's House in Col. Interlomas and the Lunch is then served to the seniors in Col. San Fernando. You can choose to come only to Ora's, only to serve lunch, or both.

    Learn How to Create Unique One-of-a-Kind Earrings

       

    Using a flat head plier, round nose plier and wire cutters, you will make three different pairs of boutique-style  earrings to take home with you.   You will learn how to attach a finding to a hanging earring post, work with a head pin, as well as wire wrap beautiful semi-precious stones. With the skills you learn you will be able to make beautiful jewelry at home. 

    Everything you need will be provided as well as a light breakfast of tasty bites and drinks.

    IWC Hiking Club

    Enjoy the fresh air, beautiful plants, catch up with IWC members and get your steps in for the day! 

    Details:  For those of you who love the outdoors and getting away from the big city, the Hiking Club will aim to meet once a month to enjoy a 2-4 hour hike.  You will need sturdy shoes (hiking boots best but sneakers/trainers are OK), hiking poles (optional - but a big help for anyone with knee issues), water, and some snacks.  We will meet at the trailhead, and Lainie will send a pin so you can all see where it is located. Please note this is not a tour.

    When: Days, Dates and times vary by month.  The next hike is on January 17th.

    Where: Location will change from month to month.  Registrants will be sent the exact location in a separate email. The hikes will take place in and around Mexico City and change from one month to the next (for example Ajusco, Desierto de Los Leones, etc.)  Lianie will send a pin to the trailhead.  Also she has a 8 seater SUV and am happy to fill it up (departing from a meeting location in San Angel).

    Walking Tour Francisco Sosa Street

    IWC partners with Understand Mexico to bring you a fun walking tour.


    Details:We'll be exploring one of the loveliest streets in the Magical Neighborhood of Coyoacan.  Francisco Sosa Street -  a charming cobblestoned road in Coyoacan, holds many unexpected surprises including the City's only Watercolor Museum, the National Sound Archives, a few cultural centers, Santa Catarina Plaza which gives this neighborhood its name, plus a few great upscale food shop.

    Learn about all the famous people who lived on this street, including a Mexican Nobel Prize winner, a British archaeologist and a Mexican president to name a few. We will have the chance to go inside a few of what were once palatial estates and even fit in a little shopping!

    Help us make baby blankets for newborns.

    Details:
    Once a month ladies meet to cut fleece fabric into blankets which are given to new mothers at a hospital in Atizapan. No sewing is necessary!  

    When: The second Thursday of each month from September through June, from 10:30am to 12:30pm (Check the calendar for specific dates.)

    Cost: Free!  It is helpful, but not necessary, to bring your own scissors.
